October 2020 updates
Quick update of what I’ve been up to lately in my spare time:
Brushing up on HTML and CSS with CodeAcademy (New endeavor!)
Cantonese practice with Drops (now at 463 words!)
Korean practice with Duolinguo (New endeavor!)
Math practice with Khan Academy
Why: I started having anxiety dreams about not doing my math homework, even through I graduated college 3 years ago lol. This was the only way I found that makes the dreams ago away.
Continuing to learn Guitar with Yousician (I now know E, Em, Am, C and G!)
Aligning my mind and body with Wim Hoff Method breathing
Tiny habits push you towards towards vastly different directions. Last month I read Feel Better in 5: Your Daily Plan to Feel Great for Life by Dr. Rangan Chatterjee, after hearing his recent interview on the Rich Roll Podcast. He argues that committing the tiniest amount of time to the 3 pillars of health- mind, body, and heart- that one would be able to make monumental change. While mediating for 30 minutes, 15 minutes, or even 5 minutes may seem like an insurmountable task for some, taking some time to self review for 1 minute is possible. While working out for an hour might be impossible for someone just starting out, making a focused intention to move for 5 minutes is super doable. The point is, the goal is so small that it becomes super easy to start, and once you start you naturally feel like continuing pass your minimum. That’s the key for habit creation: start small and be consistent. Eventually you’ll increase your capacity for more. And your natural patterns of behavior will adjust, and will work in alignment with your inner purpose.
Side note: Back in my middle school, I started to notice a pattern in the sky in every October. There’ll usually be one day where the clouds are thick against the horizon, but clear up above, making a visual mountain range surrounding my area in all directions. I looks like today is that day this year!
